2x²-7x-4 = (2x+1)∙(x-4)
times "2x²-7x-4" at both sides of the equation
5x - 2(2x+1) = 2(x-4)
x = 6 (Ans)

the answer given is 5
We can verify by substituting the value of x found back to the equation. 5 satisfies the equation but 6 does not. You may want to check again.
