The trick to solving this question is understanding similar triangles and the property that it has. This is part one of solution as the drawing took up too much space. Part 2 is below

This method is definitely easier to understand. I didn’t manage to see the breakdown of this shape at first glance hence used similar triangles

Third method: extend the entire diagram to make it a rectangle 13 cm by 11 cm before finding all the unshaded areas.

Similar triangles would not be the best idea for primary level students.
