The key thing to understand in this question is that it does not matter how much time they took to pick their eggs because no matter what Paul will pick twice as many as Peter in the first case and vice versa in the second. With this understanding, two models can be drawn to illustrate what 432 - 144 represents, and from there the answers can be calculated.
