What happens if "this certain number" is reduced by 1?

When it is divided by 2...there will be no remainder.

When it is divided by 3, 4, 5 or 6...there will also be no remainder.

This goes to show that if "this certain number" is reduced by 1, the result will be a common multiple of 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6,

The lowest possible of these is 60. All the other possible common multiples will, in fact, be multiples of 60.

[At the secondary level, it is no longer common for you to list down multiples of 2 starting from 2, 4, 6, 8, ... and the same goes for other multiples]

This means that the smallest possible value of "this certain number" must be 60 + 1 = 61.
