2x³ + ax² +bx - 30
= (2x-3)(x²+3x-10) = 2x³ + 3x² - 29x - 30
a = 3
b = -29
(ii)
remainder theorem

2x+1 → a = 2；b = 1；-(b/a) = -0.5
2×(-0.5)³ + 3×(-0.5)² - 29×(-0.5) - 30 = -15 (Ans)

checked it !! i understand your method a lot better then i understood my school teachers method. You had a few careless mistakes but they were easily correctable! thank you very much for your help !

Guessing your teacher used the quotient/remainder method.. useful for some questions and preferred that you understand its use...
