solving this type of puzzle is like running a maze ... when you reach a junction in the maze, there is no way to predict which is the correct path to take. you just choose a path & see if it leads you anywhere. keep track of the paths that you have taken. if you hit a dead end, you return back to the previous junction & try another path that has not been taken before.
the clues here are given in 4 statements.
you can draw 7 boxes for 7 days of the week, and fill in the names one-by-one, with those that you know *for sure* is correct.
from statement 3, we know for sure that ...
- Nora is on Thu.
- Fiona may be Mon, Tue or Wed.
- Mei Hui may be Fri, Sat or Sun.
from statement 3 & 4 together, Mei Hui must be Fri or Sat.
from statement 2, Fiona is 3 days before Michael.
[now at junction in maze]
try with Mei Hui on Fri, Amy on Sat. there is no possible way to fit in Fiona & Michael anywhere
[dead end path, go back].
[try other path]
try with Mei Hui on Sat, Amy on Sun. can fit Michael on Fri, Fiona on Tue. yay!
that just leaves Bala on Mon & Raju on Wed.
final schedule ...
Mon = Bala
Tue = Fiona
Wed = Raju
Thu = Nora
Fri = Michael
Sat = Mei Hui
Sun = Amy
re-check if all the clues are satisfied correctly. if yes, confirm that schedule is correct.
