A prism is a three-dimensional shape in which both ends (in this case, ABCD and EFGH) are identical in shape.

We call the surfaces ABCD and EFGH the cross-section of the prism in this case (for a cylinder, the cross-section takes the shape of a circle).

The "height" of the prism is basically DH (or CG or AE or BF).

The volume of any prism is calculated by multiplying the cross-sectional area of the prism by its "height". A cuboid is a good example of this. Its volume is cross-sectional area multiplied by height, where the cross-sectional area is basically the area of a rectangle.

We will need to calculate the cross-sectional area of trapezium ABCD.

Area of trapezium ABCD
= 1/2 x sum of parallel lengths x height
= 1/2 x (6 + 9) x 4
= 1/2 x 15 x 4
= 30

So, the volume of that trapezoidal prism
= 30 x 10
= 300
