b/a=x

Cross multiply

5(2-x) =3(7+3x)

x = - 11/14

Continue from your working :

10a - 5b = 21a + 9b

'bring over' the 10a to the right and 9b to the left side (changing the sign as well)

-5b - 9b = 21a - 10a

-14b = 11a

Divide both sides by a,

-14b/a = 11

Divide both sides by -14,

b/a = 11/-14 = - 11/14

Alternatively, think of this way: (bringing over is just a shortcut)

10a - 5b = 21a + 9b

Subtract 10a from both sides,

10a - 5b - 10a = 21a + 9b - 10a

-5b = 11a + 9b

Subtract 9a from both sides,

-5b - 9b = 11a + 9b - 9b

-14b = 11a

Continue from here like the previous working.
