This is how it looks like if you plot the full graph of y = sin 2x - cos x.

Solving sin 2x > cos x, in other words sin 2x - cos x > 0, is akin to plotting the graph of y = sin 2x - cos x on the standard Cartesian axes and looking for the relevant regions where y > 0 (i.e. lying above the x-axis).
