Remember this.

“Dividend = Divisor x Quotient + Remainder”

This is important when we do division.

For example, when we divide 7 by 3, the dividend is 7 and the divisor is 3.

The result is 2 (the quotient) along with the accompanying remainder of 1.

We can write this as “7 = 2 x 3 + 1” using the above format.

Similarly,

Dividend
= 3 x 49 + 2
= 147 + 2
= 149

Try dividing 149 by 3 using long division and check your result.

To find the answer, take the quotient multiplied by the divisor and add the remainder.

47 x 3 + 2 = 143

We can look at the number 7 as an example. When you take 7 divided by 3, you get 2 as your quotient and 1 as your remainder.
Hence, working backwards,

2 + 3 x 2 = 7
