14+8 = 22

½ ×22×8 = 88
unshaded part
= square ABCD - shaded
= 16×16 - 88
= 168 cm² (Ans)

This method is called both change. In part (a), I multiplied Cindy’s values by 2 as I wanted to make the end (which is 15 yrs later) equal. The model is to represent it. And part (b) onwards is easier.
