take number of adults as 1 unit
n.o of boys is twice of n.o of adults
so n.o of boys = 2 units
there are 12 more boys than girls
so n.o of girls
= n.o of boys - 12
= 2u - 12
total (boys+girls+adults) = 288
1u+2u+2u-12 = 288
5u - 12 = 288
add 12 to both sides
(to remove 12 from (5u-12)
5u-12 +12 = 288+12
5u = 300
1u = 300÷5 = 60
n.o of girls = 2u-12 = 2x60-12 =120-12 =108
