you may be reluctance to learn formula. Take a look at the pattern/trend
figure 1. 2+2
figure 2. 2 +2+2
figure 3. 2+2+2+2
figure 4. 2+2+2+2+2
how about figure 9? how many 2 are you going to add together? Is it 10? the number is 2*10 = 20
How about figure N? It is (N+1)
Number of dots will be 2*(N+1) or 2N +2.
The more similar sums you do, the more familar you will be. If you prefer to remember formula. No problem also.

Basically each pattern is adding one more square but minus 2 dots since they are connected. So add 2 after each pattern.

So formula
= 4*n - (n-1)*2
= 2n + 2

So answer is 35 which will give 72 dots
