Realize that on pattern EVEN number, unshaded and shaded square are same. Hope this helps.

You got part (b) correct!
Part(c) is a little more challenging as you need to observe that the difference between unshaded and shaded squares is only different by 1 if the figure no. is odd no.
If the figure no. is even, then the unshaded squares=shaded squares.
