I’m confused with the working so i just decided to count the shape one by one to get the answer. Can anyone explain how the working works?

I'm not exactly sure what to write in the given lines, but here's the answers to (b) and (c).

The pattern counts in multiples of 4.
For (b), there will be exactly 5 sets of 4 shapes, thus the 20th shape will be the last shape of the 5th set.

For (c), there will be a remainder of 3 shapes, thus it will be found in the 10th set, and that will be the circle.
