answer is 3

- iodine tests for the presence of starch, which is a product of photosynthesis
- in order for photosynthesis to happen, carbon dioxide is required
- only the plant in U could not photosynthesise (negative iodine test)
- thus something prevented it from photosynthesising
- looking at options, solution that absorbs CO2 would prevent photosynthesis (3)
