Base of △ ABC = AB

AB = EC = 12cm

Height of △ABC = DC
(remember that height is always perpendicular to the base)

= 12 cm ÷ 2
= 6 cm

(Since DC = DE , D is the midpoint of EC. So DC = ½EC)

Area of △ABC = ½ × base × height
= ½ × 12 cm × 6 cm
= 36 cm²
