Length of cuboid B
= 22cm - 11cm (length of cuboid A)
= 11cm

Volume of cuboid A
= 11cm × 4cm × 12cm
= 528cm³

Volume of cuboid B
= 11cm × 4cm × 6cm
= 264cm³

Total volume of the solid figure
= 528cm³ + 264cm³
= 792cm³

Now this 792cm³ of metal was melted and recast into 3 cubes of different sizes.

Each cube's edge is a whole number.

Next, do a guess and check of the three cubes' edge lengths and add their volumes up to try to get 792cm³

We realise that :

4 × 4 × 4 + 6 × 6 × 6 + 8 × 8 × 8

= 64 + 216 + 512

= 792

So the three cubes have edge lengths of 4cm, 6cm and 8cm.

Difference between volume of largest cube and smallest cube

= 512cm³ - 64cm³

= 448cm³
