If you notice every even number, -8 and every odd number ,-3
Example
1→2 = -8
2→3 = -3
3→4 = -8
4→ 5 = -3
.
.
.
55→56 = -8

From 1→56 = 28×(-8) = -224 (Total 28 even numbers)
From 3 →56 = 27×(-3) = -81 (Total 27 odd numbers, except number 1)
Total = -224 + (-81) = -305
Therefore, 56th number = 999 - 305 = 694.
