Add 35 silver stars first, to make the number same as gold stars.
Points from these 35 silver stars
= 35 × 3
= 105
With these 35 stars, the difference in points is now lower.
New difference = 730 - 105 = 625
With the same number of gold and silver stars now, look at the difference between 1 gold and 1 silver star's points
8 - 3 = 5
How many sets of these are needed to get a difference of 625 stars?
625 ÷ 5 = 125
So 125 gold stars score 625 more points than 125 silver stars.
This tells you that there were 125 gold stars in the first place.
= Gold + silver
= 125 + (125 - 35)
= 125 + 90
= 215
Check:
Points from 125 gold stars = 125 × 8 = 1000
Points from 90 silver stars = 90 × 3 = 270
Difference = 1000 - 270 = 730 ✓

Each gold star has 8 -3 = 5 points more then silver star.
5 points → 1 star
450 points → 450÷5 =90.
