There are a total of 8 spaces (in between the 2 lines) between 2 and 3, this means that 1 space = 1/8.
The missing mixed number can be obtained by doing any of the two operations below.
2 3/4 + 1/8 = 2 7/8
or
3 - 1/8 = 2 7/8
