So ⅜ of the remaining shapes is equal to 1/5 of the total number of shapes.
Equal concept : make the numerator the same.
1/5 = 3/15
So we can say total number of shapes is 15 units and 8 units were remaining after the first day. On the second day, 5 units were folded, and 3 units were left to be folded.
Shapes folded on first day
= 15 units - 8 units = 7 units
Fraction of all the shapes that were folded on the first day = 7/15
b)
7 units = 175
1 unit = 175 ÷ 7 = 25
Shapes they had to fold in all
= 25 × 15
= 375
(a) ⁷⁄₁₅
(b) 375
