Yes, measuring the pH change is equivalent to measuring the change in concentration of H+ ions in the reaction mixture. As the reaction produces HI, which is an acid, measuring pH change is equivalent to measuring the rate at which HI is produced.

PS : this is the best and most logical answer I can think of.
