The long way : quadratic formula
x² + 4ix + i + x - 5 = 0
x² + (4i + 1)x + i - 5 = 0
x = (-(4i + 1) ± √[(4i + 1)² - 4(1)(i - 5)] ) / 2(1)
x = (-4i - 1 ± √[16i² + 8i + 1 - 4i + 20] ) / 2
x = (-4i - 1 ± √[-16 + 20 + 8i - 4i + 1]) / 2
x = (-4i - 1 ± √[5 + 4i]) / 2
