Realise that - 1/(4 - x)

= - 1 / -(x - 4)
= 1/(x - 4)

So,

3/(x - 4)² - 1/(4 - x)

= 3/(x - 4)² + 1/(x - 4)

Now you can make the denominator the same.

= 3/(x - 4)² + (x - 4)/(x - 4)²

= (3 + x - 4)/(x - 4)²

= (x - 1)/(x - 4)²

3/(x - 4)^2 - 1/(4 - x)
= 3/(x - 4)^2 + 1/(x - 4)
= 3/(x - 4)^2 + (x - 4)/(x - 4)(x - 4)
= 3/(x - 4)^2 + (x - 4)/(x - 4)^2
= [3 + x - 4]/(x - 4)^2
= (x - 1)/(x - 4)^2
