Concept : grouping (difference)
a) If Mdm Filza had sold the same number of tulips as Mr Goh instead,
22 × $8 = $176
$176 + $157 = $333
She would have received $333 more than him.
This also means for the same number of tulips, those sold by Mdm Filza cost $333 more than those sold by Mr Goh.
Now $8 - $5 = $3
1 tulip sold by Mdm Filza cost $3 more than 1 tulip sold by Mr Goh. This is the difference for 1 group.
How many groups are there such that the difference is $333?
$333 ÷ $3 = 111
There are 111 such groups. Since each group has 1 tulip sold by Mdm Filza and 1 sold by Mr Goh, this tells you that Mr Goh actually sold 111 tulips.
111 - 22 = 89
Mdm Filza actually sold 89 tulips.
b) Raising the price to $10 per tulip means :
$10 - $8 = $2
She would receive $2 more for each tulip sold.
Since she sold 89 tulips, 89 × $2 = $178. She would receive $178 more in total.
So, $178 + $157 = $335
She would earn $335 more than Mr Goh.
