Very easy.
639 is an odd number. So if you split it back into the two whole numbers, one must be odd and one must be even.
The smallest difference between an odd and an even number is 1.
Eg. 5 - 4 = 1, 3 - 2 = 1, 900 - 899 = 1
The smallest difference between two even numbers or two odd numbers is 2.
Eg. 7 - 5 = 2, 8 - 6 = 2,
Since we have 1 odd and 1 even number here, subtract 1 from 639 first.
639 - 1 = 638
Now 638 is the same as two times of the smaller number.
638 ÷ 2 = 319
The smaller number is 319.
The bigger number : 319 + 1 = 320
