1) count the total no. of sides (surfaces) that are exposed and not covered by other cubes. You should be able to get 20 exposed surfaces. The solid which is made up of identical cubes has a surface area of 980cm^2, so solution of 1a) is
q1a) Surface area of 1 side of cube= 980/20
=49
q1b) vol. of solid will be equal to vol. of 1cube x total no. of cubes. NOTE: vol of one cube is length x length x length (all sides of cube are equal)
