Hi! This is a geometric progression (GP). Meaning, the next term is a constant multiple of the previous term. In this question, that multiple is 1/2.
The general formula for a GP is ar^n-1, where a is the first term and r is the multiple.
So in this case the formula is 1054(0.5)^n-1, as seen in the answer to part (ii).
Just remember this formula can only work if the multiple is constant.
