In Figure 2, if the rectangle and square were to pull apart, each shape would have a shaded part.
Then, there would be 2 shaded parts.
Hence, the total area in Figure 1 will be the unshaded part + 2 shaded parts.
Then, there would be 2 shaded parts.
Hence, the total area in Figure 1 will be the unshaded part + 2 shaded parts.
