You can use simple method.
= ½ × (12-2) × 5
= ½ × 10 × 5
= 25 cm ².

Jason, you must first identify what the “base” of a triangle and the “height” of a triangle are. The height must be perpendicular (at right angles) to the base.

Once you pick the correct values, then we use base times height divided by 2 to find the area of the triangle.

The correct base to use here is “10 cm”, just like what AC Lim has noted. This is because the “2 cm” is not part of the triangle.

The perpendicular height is 5 cm, because the line for the 5 cm height is at right angles to the line for the 10 cm base (if you extend them with dotted lines).
