The ratio of the areas is 5:6. Hence 5x+6x = 11x represents the total area of both rectangles. So we know 20% of A is shaded.
Recalling the ratio of the area of rectangle A to be 6x -> the shaded area is hence 0.2*6x.
Hence, 11x-(0.2*6x) = unshaded area (172)
Using a calculator, you will be able to solve for x. Now since the area of A is 6x and you know x, you hence know the area. 20% of this is shaded, giving you the value for the shaded area.
