Just subtract the area of the smaller triangle from the bigger one.


The two unshaded areas will cancel out. leaving you with the difference in shaded areas

9cm is the length of the base, not the whole stretch from one arrow to the other

Area of any triangle is always :

½ × base × perpendicular height (meaning it has to be 90° to the base), regardless of whether it is an acute, right-angled or obtuse triangle
