From the diagram we know that the grey tile is 20cm longer than the white tile

We also can see that 128cm = length of 2 white tile + 1 grey tile

So, if we add two times of 20cm, we can change it into 3 grey tile lengths.

128cm + 20cm + 20cm = 168cm

Then, length of 1 grey tile
= 168cm ÷ 3
= 56cm

To finish up,

1 square tile length

= 128cm - 2 grey tile lengths
= 128cm - 56cm - 56cm
= 16cm

Area of square tile

= 16cm × 16cm

= 256 cm²

Alternatively,

We can see that 1 grey tile length
= 1 square tile length + 20cm + 20cm
= 1 square tile length + 40cm

We also see that 128cm = 2 grey tile lengths + 1 square tile length.

So 128cm

= 2 square tile lengths + 80cm + 1 square tile length
= 3 square tile lengths + 80cm

3 square tile lengths
= 128cm - 80cm
= 48cm

1 square tile length
= 48cm ÷ 3
= 16cm

Area of square tile

= 16 cm × 16 cm
= 256 cm²
