prime factorisation :

① divide by the smallest prime factor first.

② If divisible , try again. If not, go to the next biggest prime factor.

③ Stop when you reach 1 or you reach a prime factor.

1188 ÷ 2 = 594

594 ÷ 2 = 297

397 is odd and cannot be divided by 2. So try 3.

297 ÷ 3 = 99

99 ÷ 3 = 33

33 ÷ 3 = 11

11 is prime so we can stop already.


So,


1188 = 11 x 3 x 3 x 3 x 3 x 2 x 2

= 2² × 3³ x 11
