It's good practice to do prime factorisation so its easier to convert to the desired surd. To rationalise, simply just invert the middle sign. For example, if denominator is a + bsqrt(z), change + to - so it becomes a - bsqrt(z). Multiply a - bsqrt(z) on numerator and denominator.
