You have to rewrite the denominator on the left in the form similar to the first part.


Since the first part is 2x, we need to rewrite it as 2 'something'

2ˣ⁺¹ + 2
= 2(2ˣ) + 2
= 2(2ˣ + 1)


The term on the right hand side undergoes the same change.


2ˣ - 1
= 2ˣ - 1 + 1 - 1
= (2ˣ + 1) - 2

This is in the form 'something' - 2


So, simply substitute x from the first part with 2ˣ + 1
