Let Mike's money be ⬛⬛⬛⬛⬛
1/5 of that = ⬛
Since ¼ of Alan's money is $65 more than 1/5 of Mike's,
¼ of Alan's money = ⬛ + $65
Alan's money in total = 4 times of (⬛ + $65)
= ⬛⬛⬛⬛ + 4 x $65
= ⬛⬛⬛⬛ + $260
Total they have = ⬛⬛⬛⬛⬛ + ⬛⬛⬛⬛ + $260
= ⬛⬛⬛⬛⬛⬛⬛⬛⬛ + $260
This equals $800
⬛⬛⬛⬛⬛⬛⬛⬛⬛ = $800 - $260 = $540
⬛ = $540 ÷ 9 = $60
Difference between Alan and Mike
= ⬛⬛⬛⬛ + $260 - ⬛⬛⬛⬛⬛
= $260 - ⬛
= $260 - $60
= $200
Alan has $200 more than Mike.
