This might be confusing so I am adding an explanation here.

1) convert ratios to fractions first, then convert fractions to same denominator.

2) boys = girls + 2048. So when looking at fiction books borrowed by boys, think of it as 1/4 girls + 1/4*2048.

3) draw model to compare fiction books borrowed by boys and girls and you should see that 7units represent 812. Do the calculations from there to find total books borrowed.
